I never thought I'd see a night
so brutally antagonized
A scarlet line, a window pane
a painful sigh, I'll never cry again
I'm walking out the door
as I have done too many times before
to pace these silent streets
and contemplate my tired memories
They're walking next to me
and we both could use some sleep
They're walking next to me
keeping me company
But in the sky I feel a guide
beaming from a watchful eye
with stars like headlights dancing still
around its strong envisioned will
It's setting in, I'm trembling
Flowers among dying leaves
are so hard to find and even harder to keep
I'm seeing myself in the moonlit pavement now
wishing I could just stop and lay down
Another wasted night
has taken me from home to find
comfort and clarity, but I know better than to try
Grey clouds like time
are passing high, above, and over everything
Hurrying me, worrying me, meaning nothing
Quietly I sing
I never thought I'd see a sky
so beautifully unrecognized
The hardest part is passing pain
I tell myself I won't look back again
Somehow I always do
remembering what once stood as the truth
But that was yesterday
and the sun is rising back into my face
